Behind The Mask
presented by alantude in collaboration with sawyer yards
The 1918 influenza pandemic infected 500 million and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims. 100 years later and we find ourselves repeating history. How many deaths will we see before care for others is priority?
As we continue to go out into the world today, we see masks not only being a great way to stop the spread of diseases, but the new unique way for everyone to express themselves. As an artist, we must reflect the world in our art. We create what we live. And so it became paramount to make our new reality an art exhibit. Welcome to "behind the mask."
Being part of the Sawyer Yards community, Alan reached out to the artists and created a blank canvas of a mask and then each artist was free to create on it however they felt. The masks you see here are the result of this collaboration.
Behind the mask reminds you that behind each masked person you encounter on the streets today, is a human trying to survive the global pandemic and get back home to their loved ones. Do your part, wear a mask.
Proceeds of masks bought from this exhibition will be donated to Pablove. The Pablove Foundation is dedicated to addressing childhood cancer through art + science. They improve the lives of children living with cancer through the arts and invest in underfunded, cutting-edge pediatric cancer research.
